Here's what to expect at San Antonio's newest 70s-themed bar
The Gusto Group, masterminds behind spaces such Toro Kitchen + Bar, Cuishe Cocina Mexicana, Cellar Mixology, and Bunker Mixology, have continued their takeover of St. Paul Square with two new additions. Stylus Mixology is a 70s-themed bar while Boombox is an 80s/90s-centric pizza bar.
With an entryway illuminated by a reflective mirror wall, silver mannequins, and several disco balls, a visit to Stylus feels like entering a time capsule to a bygone era of bell bottoms, groovy jams, and killer cocktails.
Stylus Mixology is only open to guest 25-years-old and up It's an intimate space, hidden away in plain sight on E. Commerce St. Once you find the staircase, it's nigh on impossible to forget.
Classic records serve as a design focal point of Stylus, with booths intermixed in between the main bar space and near the doors to the outdoor balcony area.
Guests were already taking photos on the stairway and near the record walls before they even took a look at the specialty cocktail menu.
The specialty drink menu pays homage to classic music hits of the past, from the bubblegum-flavored Pour Some Sugar on Me cocktail with a pink sugar rim, a gin-based Tainted Love concoction, and even an tequila (or mezcal) forward ode to David Bowie's hit Space Oddity, complete with edible glitter.
Whiskey lovers should opt for the Jessie's Girl cocktail, an herbal-forward drink with notes of elderflower and rosemary. Other standouts include the espresso-centric Afternoon Delight, and the vodka-based Ice Ice Baby, complete with raspberry juice and ginger foam.
Like the Gusto Group's other sister bars, Stylus has bottle service, DJ service, and dedicated bartenders that truly put the craft in craft cocktails.
Prices for cocktails at Stylus range from $12 to $18. While Stylus is drinks only, hungry guests can head downstairs to Boombox, the sister pizza bar, for a hearty, freshly-baked slice (or two.)
A representative from the Gusto Group told MySA that Stylus will have themed nights in the future — follow the bar on Instagram for the most up-to-date details.
Stylus, which is still in its soft opening phase as of publication, is currently open Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
